The Sienese painter Duccio di Buoninsegna's painting of the "Maesta" was carried through the streets of Siena in 1311 before being placed on the main altar in the Cathedral. "Famine Ship - The Jeanie Johnston" by Nuala Holloway - Oil on Canvas
(This is the original oil painting which, accepted by the U.S. Embassy in Dublin, was presented to U.S. President Barack Obama on his first official state visit to Ireland in 2011. The Jeanie Johnston represents the type of ship President Obama's Irish ancestors would have sailed on as they headed for America. President Obama subsequently sent a personal letter of gratitude to Nuala for her gift)
